このたび、2001年に東大数理に提出した修士論文が、arXiv(プレプリントサーバ、インターネット上のプレプリント置き場)で公開されました。

Abstract(要旨)、introduction(導入)のご紹介をいたします。

Abstract(全文、原文)

We give a presentation of a groupoid of transformations of quilt decompositions of a surface, which are pants decompositions of the surface with the addition of “seams”. We consider colored quilt decompositions of a surface, where one side of a quilt decomposition is colored. We also give a presentation of a groupoid of transformations of colored quilt decompositions of a surface. These presentations of such groupoids are realized by constructing connected and simply-connected two-dimensional cell complexes whose 0-cell are these up-to-isotopy structures on the surface. In the latter part of this paper, we show that Torelli group (or more precisely, a torsion-free subgroup of a mapping class group of a surface) acts on these complexes freely.

これに続き、introduction(導入)があります。

This paper is based on [F], which was submitted as a master’s thesis to the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo, in March 2001. The mathematical contents of this paper are essentially the same as those of [F], but the explanation is more detailed. Theorem 12 of [F] is equivalent to corollary 19 of this paper, and theorem 18 gives a slight extension of this result.

Background and acknowledgments.

I had the opportunity to attend a lecture [N] by Professor Hiroaki Nakamura on June 22, 1999, shortly after I became a master’s student. Shortly after submitting my master’s thesis [F], I fell ill and was unable to publish it.

In 2004, Professor Takashi Ichikawa cited [F] in [Ic]. After this, Professor Nakamura, then a professor at Okayama University, invited me to give a 120-minute lecture at the university on November 25, 2004. I was greatly honored by this invitation, and I am deeply grateful to Professor Nakamura and Professor Ichikawa.

Many years later, in 2025, I had the good fortune to meet Professor Koji Hasegawa. Since November 2025, he has encouraged me to publish [F] and helped me contact Professor Toshitake Kohno again, who had been my academic supervisor. I am deeply grateful to Professor Hasegawa and Professor Kohno.
